SummerSalt is coming to Mackay QLD in 2025 with a sunny line-up of spectacular Aussie music.

Regrettably, due to issues that could not have been reasonably anticipated, the Summersalt concert scheduled to be held in Mackay on May 3, 2025, is cancelled.

This year’s lineup is set to dazzle, bringing together the best of Aussie music with the incredible talents of Missy Higgins, Birds of Tokyo, Fanning Dempsey National Park, The Waifs, The Whitlams, and Josh Pyke!

MISSY HIGGINS

Missy Higgins is one of Australia’s most beloved singer/songwriters. She has struck a deep and enduring chord with her irresistible melodies and ‘arrow through the heart’ lyrics, delivered by a striking voice that clearly means it.

Since being Unearthed by Triple J back in 2002 when she was still at high school Missy has blazed a trail for female singer/songwriters. She has received 26 ARIA Award nominations and earned five #1’s in her homeland while also enjoying a gold certification in the USA.

2024 is shaping up as a huge year for Missy with the release of a new album called The Second Act - “a kind of sequel” to her hugely influential debut The Sound Of White which celebrates its 20th anniversary. Over the last 20 years, The Sound Of White, and Missy’s entire career, have inspired dozens of young Australian women to sing their own songs in their own ways. As Missy heads into The Second Act of her career she remains one of Australia’s most revered voices.

BIRDS OF TOKYO

Formed in Perth, Birds of Tokyo have grown from independent roots to become one of Australia’s most popular contemporary rock bands. The band has released six studio albums including Human Design which topped the ARIA charts. Classic songs like “Good Lord”, “Two Of Us”, “Plans”, “Lanterns”, “Brace” and “I’d Go With You Anywhere” have all been top 10 airplay hits and more than seventy Birds of Tokyo tracks have featured on Triple J, making them one of the National Youth Broadcaster’s three most played artists of this millennium. 

They have played major festivals like Splendour In The Grass & Falls and appeared as special guests for Muse, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel and Bon Jovi.  They have also toured across Australia with some of the country’s most prestigious Symphony Orchestras. Birds of Tokyo have won “Rock Work Of The Year” on a record setting five separate occasions at the APRA Awards.

FANNING DEMPSEY NATIONAL PARK

Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey are two of the most revered and successful Australian artists of the last 30 years. The esteemed pair have launched new project Fanning Dempsey National Park and announced debut album, The Deluge, out now.

They’ve crafted a bold sound, with the sonic guiding principle have synthesisers edging out guitars, You may hear the tangled DNA of Powderfinger and Something For Kate in vivid flashes here and there, but the electronic washes, synth arpeggiators and motorik rhythms bring new skin to the game.

The two singer-songwriters’ solo works and monumental respective bands, Powderfinger and Something For Kate, account for nine number one albums, millions of sales, a staggering 38 songs in Triple J’s Hottest 100, scores of awards from ARIA to APRA and beyond, and reputations among the most skilled and thoughtful writers of their generation.

The original independent avant-garde folk heroes turned multiplatinum-selling, multiple ARIA Award-winning, international touring outfit have released eight LPs. The Waifs continue to forge a proudly independent path 30 years on and show no sign of slowing down. Donna Simpson, Vikki Thorn, and Josh Cunningham continue to share their folk-infused, feel-good sounds with adoring, now multi-generation audiences.

THE WHITLAMS

The Whitlams’ bittersweet storytelling and rollicking performances have made them one of Australia’s most successful touring and recording acts since the mid 1990s, when they single-handedly brought piano back onto the indie airwaves.

Over the course of their storied history, they have released five platinum and gold selling albums in a row, including the beloved "Eternal Nightcap" which captured the hearts of a generation with its famous opener, ARIA Song of the Year "No Aphrodisiac".

Tim Freedman is riding a new wave of energy, releasing two new albums since 2022, "Sancho" and the the Americana-influenced "Kookaburra", and touring the nation seven times in his various lineups in the last three years.

JOSH PYKE

Josh Pyke is one of Australia’s premier singer/songwriters. Known for his ability to weave intelligent lyrics with warm melodies and quirky song structures, Pyke is a modern-day storyteller whose unique and evocative use of both words and music places him in a league of his own.

Josh’s breakthrough single was Middle of the Hill, which made it to #19 on triple j’s 2005 Hottest 100 countdown and appeared on his debut release, a mini album entitled Feeding The Wolves. Josh followed this up with the 2007 release of his debut album Memories & Dust, which hit the ARIA chart at #4. The Gold record, hailed a “classic” by The Daily Telegraph and “world-class” by The Age, was acclaimed by critics and fans alike. It took out three ARIA Awards and was nominated for a J Award.

Throughout his momentous career Josh has received four ARIA Awards, with a further nine nominations, and has had nine songs appear in triple j’s Hottest 100 countdowns.

CAN I BYO FOOD & BEVERAGES?

This is a fully catered venue with a range of bar and food options.

You may bring SEALED plastic bottles of water/soft drink. No glass. Free drinking water will be available in the venue and patrons may refill their bottles. You may bring a small quantity of your own food/snacks in a cooler bag, small esky, or picnic basket.

CAN I BYO ESKY / COOLER BAG?

Patrons are permitted to bring a small esky or cooler bag up to 50 litres per group.

CAN I BYO ALCOHOL?

You may not bring in or leave with any alcohol whatsoever.

WILL THERE BE FREE DRINKING WATER?

Free drinking water will be available in the venue.

Patrons may bring in sealed plastic bottles of water that can be refilled at the water stations (or you can bring an empty plastic bottle for this purpose).

WILL THERE BE A BOX OFFICE?

Tickets are to be purchased online prior to the event and tickets will be sent via email.

A Box Office will be in operation and located at the concert entry point where, if relevant, you can collect your ticket or speak to a Ticketmaster representative.

WILL SEATING BE PROVIDED?

Seating is not provided for this event for any ticket category. Patrons are permitted to bring a portable, high back fold-up chair. This is roughly the size of a normal height chair. No picnic blankets or low back (low to the ground) chairs.

Parents can bring a small blanket for their baby/toddlers to sit/crawl/sit on however adults cannot use picnic blankets. We ask that you respect others at the show and restrict your space usage where possible for the comfort of all patrons.

WHERE CAN I SMOKE?

Smoking is prohibited in all parts of the venue, with the exception of designated smoking areas.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

The concert will proceed rain or shine. Only exceptionally severe weather conditions will affect the performance, so be prepared for either scenario.

WHERE DO I GO IF I HAVE A PREMIUM TICKET?

Premium General Admission ticketholders have access to the dedicated Premium area closest to the stage, as well as dedicated venue entry, and access to a dedicated bar lane. Please look out for signage when entering and inside the event.

WHAT TRANSPORT IS AVAILABLE?

If transport options are available then the information will be shared here closer to the event.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

Please note there will be no public parking. We suggest you use public transport, taxi, or rideshare services.

IS THERE ACCESSIBLE PARKING?

Accessible Parking is not always assured, however, in the absence of parking close to the gates, alternatives will be provided. Traffic management will be available to direct Accessible Permit Holders.

There is also a pick-up/drop-off point located close to the entry recommended for those travelling with patrons with accessibility needs.

When purchasing your ticket, we strongly advise that you notify the ticketing agent if you are in a wheelchair or need assistance so that we can contact you before the event.

IS THERE AN ACCESSIBLE AREA?

Our outdoor concert sites are predominantly flat grass parkland and at times, part of the venue can be soft and boggy. For patrons in a wheelchair, there will be an accessible viewing area. The accessible area will be a dedicated space at the back of the Premium GA area, with an adjacent accessible toilet. There will be no raised platform however all efforts are made to ensure there is a clear line of sight to the stage.

Being accompanied by a carer is recommended and we offer complimentary companion tickets for companion card holders.

On show day, our customer service staff will be available if you need assistance accessing the concert site. We strongly advise that you notify the ticketing agent when purchasing your ticket if you are in a wheelchair or need assistance so we can contact you prior to the event.
