The Cat Empire are back and will bring their electric live show to Fremantle with a special concert under the stars in the courtyard of the historic Fremantle Prison on Saturday, 22nd April 2023.

Aussie icons The Cat Empire have had an illustrious career, spanning decades, genres, and millions of adoring fans from across the globe.

As two of the original three founding members of the group, Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill will continue their legacy and create a fresh, new era for the band and their fans. With boundless creative possibilities, a fantastic collaborative process, and musical curiosity, the new project will showcase a wonderful collective of rotating musicians that will still maintain the DNA of The Cat Empire but include more collaborations, influences, and diverse musicians.

On the live circuit, The Cat Empire are excited to introduce a new generation of diverse performers to share their stage. They will join the recognisable horns section of Ross Irwin and Kieran Conrau, familiar faces of over 18 years to Cat Empire fans. Their new show will celebrate movement, vibrancy, and playfulness – with a host of new material as well as all the favourite songs fans know and love.

With a history of multiple platinum records, awards, sold out tours and over 250 million streams – The Cat Empire are set to expand their kingdom in 2022 as they enter an exciting new era.

This is an 18+ only event - no children are permitted (including babies).

The Prison Tour is an optional add-on to either a General Admission or Premium GA Ticket.

Prior to the concert, join the Fremantle Prison Highlights Tour; a 30-minute tour that provides visitors with an insight into the past of Fremantle Prison, taking guests through the Main Cell Block, Solitary Confinement and Gallows. Find out how a convict-built prison transformed into Western Australia’s primary place of incarceration for men, women and children, from its construction in the 1850s to a maximum-security gaol from 1887 to 1991. With an experienced guide leading the way, walk back in time and learn about the daily routine of prisoners and the realities of life on the inside of WA’s only World Heritage-listed building. Wheelchair accessibility: 100%

Tours will be conducted in small groups and will begin from around 5.00pm. Ticket holders will be notified prior to the concert about the best time to arrive at the venue.

The Cat Empire is uniquely Australian, with realised global ambitions over a 20-year career.

For their new record, the band have gone back to where it all started in their hometown of Melbourne where they first met and discovered live music by sneaking into venues when they were 15. They will explore new styles and approaches while also celebrating the melting pot of international sounds coming from local artists. The record is as ambitious as it is considered – with a list of over 30 contemporary musicians to play on the record.

DEATH BY DENIM

Honey vocals, dreamy synth and vibrant guitar riffs are fast becoming the signature of indie four-piece Death by Denim. Formed in Perth in 2016, the band is made up of close friends, Palle Mazzulla, Nikolas Ilidias, George Gunson and Hamish Macarthur.

Breakout single ‘Wiggy’ made waves in 2019 and three national tours and a heap of sold out shows later, the band returned to WA to record their debut album, ‘Sleepless and Sunkissed’.

Album singles ‘Homemade’, ‘Out of Habit’ and ‘Caged’ were all added to high rotation on triple j and the band made the top 50 of both the triple j and triple j Unearthed most played artists of 2020. 2021 sees Death by Denim selling out their national tour for ‘Sleepless and Sunkissed’ and hitting 1 million streams each for hit tracks ‘Wiggy’ and ‘Cigarettes and Honey’. This June they release emotional new single ‘Small World’ from their hotly anticipated sophomore album.

SUPATHICK

Since their first EP was released in 2020 Supathick have kept moving forward, developing their sound and aesthetic that pays homage to vintage funk feels while maintaining pop sensibility.

Supathick have already seen a Song of the Year win, three WAM nominations (Best EP, Best R&B/Funk/Soul act, Best Music Video), support slots with the likes of The Veronicas, Ocean Alley, Spacey Jane & Babe Rainbow, a 12-date-sold out national tour with Great Gable, and not to mention an incredible reception to their still-fresh music.

Their second EP, In The Thick Of It, showcases a new colour in the Supathick palette as they craft a colourful and mix of electro-pop, funk and soul.

WHEN DO I ARRIVE IF I HAVE BOOKED THE PRISON TOUR?

If you have purchased a Prison Tour as part of the concert experience, you will be contacted regarding timings and other details (approximately a week prior to the show).

This event is standing only. Seating will not be provided and patrons are not permitted to BYO chair, blankets etc.

We play rain or shine.

No cameras, umbrellas, or other implements.

Gates open at 5.30PM. Please be aware there may be queues to enter the venue for the first part of the evening.

Fremantle Prison is a World Heritage site and must be respected at all times.

Visitors to Fremantle Prison should note that the surfaces you walk on are not always even. Please watch your step.

No shoes, no shirt, no entry.

Fremantle Prison is strictly a non-smoking site.

Fremantle Prison accepts no liability for any loss, damage or injury arising from a visit or whilst on the premises.

It is a condition of entry that visitors observe all signs and follow instructions by Fremantle Prison staff.

Fremantle Prison retains the right to deny access and/or remove visitors who are being a public nuisance, acting recklessly, or failing to observe directions from Fremantle Prison staff or signage.

Strictly no BYO alcohol, and no smoking.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the venue. You cannot bring your own food.

No pass outs.

PARKING INFORMATION

A paid car park catering for over 60 vehicles is located directly outside Fremantle Prison, The Terrace via Fothergill Street. Another large paid car park is located at the bottom of Fairbairn Ramp, accessible via Parry Street. There are two ACROD parking bays located in City of Fremantle car park #29 (The Terrace) and three located in City of Fremantle car park #1 (Parry St). Both car parks are managed by the City of Fremantle and parking fees apply.
